If you ever see the "name of Alan Smithee" in the credits of a movie, it means that the real director thought that the film was so bad, they didnÂ't want their name in it.

The players know that many games are based off of movies like Fantastic 4, Chronicles of Riddick, Batman, Superman, the list can go on and on. But what about movies based off of video games? How did they do? Below is a list games become movies over the last ten years, how they did and a prediction from game-to-movie projects in the future. The first was Super Mario Brothers. Made in 1993, it is a weak interpretation of the game in which Dennis Hopper plays King Koopa, a dinosaur evolved. There was not much of a line plot and the film was 140 minutes long agonizing. The same public sentiment that the film also bombed in box office. This However didnÂ't stop Hollywood to produce more video game movie adaptations such as: Final Fantasy The Spirits Within, the series Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider series and the most recent punishment. In 1995, the Mortal Kombat series was next to hit the big screen. Based on many more about the range of games based he still had no real plot and more like an old-fashioned kung fu movie and a big budget film.

Next Tomb Raider came in 2001, based on the game in 1996. This film was a very good interpretation of the party, which included exploration, treasure, monsters and, above all, Lara Croft, played by Jolie Ageline. Jolie looked the part of Lara Croft, as well as any human being could, where a huge reason the film did, although it was a watchable character and a good story line. Because of these aspects, the film Tomb Raider set a new trend for the future of video games to movies.

Final Fantasy The Spirits Within, made in 2001, was not based in fact on most games but the philosophies behind the game, the parallel universes, namely the existence of spirits. However, why the film has lost 120 million dollars was not the plot but the animation of the GC. Certainly, the character mapping of texture and shading was revolutionary for his time in the film industry, but due to the use of GC has not induce emotion with eyes characters and the faces, which in turn equated with bad game and a flop at the box office.

Resident Evil in 2002, tried a different approach in its adaptation in which she tried to have many different sub-plots to capture the attention of the viewer's. Did it work? No, problem here is that Resident Evil turned into more an action movie then a horror / thriller games like that. The film itself was not really so terrifying had only zombies, mutant dogs and shopping (the only real monster in the movie) it is unnecessary to say how this film has in the box office.

Then there was Doom. No 1, 1 shooter, but he was the baddest. The Doom series has had time and again scenarios. You are a marine space on Mars with a mission to close Hella portal with a huge arsenal of weapons like rocket launchers and chainsaws. One would think the producers could generate a decent script from the material in video games, but I guess the producers must have been out for lunch because there had no reference to hell in the movie. Instead it was DNA experiments gone wrong on Mars. Instead of killing demons, marine killing zombies. The hundreds of civilians were killed, while in the game that the monsters were killed. Another flop we will have to wait and see.

In Silent Hill, a key scene is when the heroine is told to memorize a map and directions are simply left, right, left, right in the nature navigation through a maze in the movie. What video game so popular was the possibility for the player to make his own choices in the game, whereas in film there is only one choice when Lowers rounded game.

The Tomb Raider movies in this writer's options were the only films that really delivered decent acting and plot line and thus did well in the box office. Does this mean that all video game movies will be horrible? No. In fact new is it that Peter Jackson has decided to change that by making a film in the series Halo, we'll see if it lives up to its promise.
