Halo 3: ODST is the last game of the popular Halo series. Exclusively for the Xbox 360 was released in September 2009 about 2 years after launch Halo 3. Upon release, the game quickly became the best seller games for Xbox 360 worldwide.
Originally, the game has been developed as a small side project to give fans something new between the launch of Halo 3 and Halo: Reach. For this reason, instead of focusing on the characters are familiar with previous Halo games, this game centers around the ODST, Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.
In the game, players take on the personalities of the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers are on top of man United Nations Space Command soldiers. Their job is to find what happened to their comrades missing in the city of New Mombasa. The teammates were separated from each other on entering the city after a group of foreigners, attacked Earth, wreaking havoc and chaos.
As the game was in development, it has evolved from a mini-game in a real game full length. But because he plays in the perspective of a different nature than the other Halo games, it has a meaning different and unique to it. It has elements film noir with a jazz theme inspired by the musical background. Despite, or perhaps because the deviations from the games Halo, Halo 3: ODST has proved extremely popular and has received mostly positive reviews.
At the beginning of the game, the player assumes the role of a soldier named "Rookie". Recruit is charged with finding his missing teammates and looking for clues. As the clues are found and the answers are revealed, The player then assumes the role of the missing soldier. The player has many choices in terms of where to go and what to do, so the game is experienced differently for each player.
The missions are completed, the additional characters are unlocked and players are able to choose which character they would be. Players also earn medals for a job well done and can track their scores over time.
The game itself has a complicated story behind that chronologically follows the other games in the Halo series. In Halo 2, a group of alien races called the Covenant discovered the location of Earth and attacked the city of New Mombasa. While most of the attackers were repulsed, one of the ships managed to land and then fell, causing a wave shock that destroyed part of New Mombasa. Halo 3: ODST takes place immediately after the shock wave while the Covenant occupies the city.
The game begins as 4 ODST provide an assault on the Covenant of the `ship outside of New Mombasa. A series of events occur, causing the ODST to plant and be separated. As a rookie, the players need to explore the city and sort the clues to find the missing ODST. The game ends when everyone has been solved unharmed.
In addition to the exciting gameplay, there are some neat sound and special effects incorporated into the game. Clearly the developers have fun putting it all together and the results are fantastic.
